You can do amazing things when you slow down. I was averaging 44 miles per gallon in my little diesel Volkwagen. Fuel prices jumped, and I started keeping my highway speeds below 70 mph … I’m averaging 47+ mpg now.

Yeah, the Mister drives 50-55, and when people zip past he always says “Gas isn't enough for you yet?”.

Now I'm going even slower — 60 or so — and appear on pace to hit 50 mpg this tank. (Although city traffic makes that tougher …)

Running around like nuts this morning, both hubby and I trying to get kids and ourselves out the door, in the frenzy knocked over an orange juice glass, which shattered, requiring sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and first aid to my big toe. Through it all, I could just hear the voice of my grandma saying, “Haste makes waste.”

Sadly, when I slow down in my Dodge Ram, it doesn't help my mileage.

You get pretty good mileage with the horses, though, don't ya, JB?

I am going to go out on a limb here… but going to guess that the car you are referring to does not fit the entire Thorp family does it? That is my struggle… the vehicles that get good milage just do not hold many people or items:)

Ah yes, the horses. Sadly, they are not that handy for quick trips to town, that is 60 miles away!
